CE-marking – an introduction

From February 1st 2010 CE-marking of windows and external doors is mandatory.

Construction Products Directive
CE-marking is a direct consequence of the EU “Internal market”. The purpose is to ensure easy exhange of goods between EU member states by removing technical barriers. To do this EU has issued Directives for different types of products.

Windows and doors fall under the Construction Product Directive (89/106/EEC) and this Directive points out six essential requirements all products must comply with :

- Mechanical resistance and stability
- Safety in case of fire
- Hygiene, health and the environment
- Safety in use
- Protection against noise
- Energy economy and heat retention

These requirements are being implemented through “harmonized standards”.
